Key-pal sites
A key pal is the e-mail equivalent of a pen-pal. That is, you write to each other when you have time to improve your English. Because e-mails are so informal, they have many things in common with conversational expressions and grammar. Getting a key pal can make a huge difference in your ability to express yourself in English.
This is an excellent key-pal site that connects you with people who are looking specifically for key pals in Japan. You can register in either English or Japanese.
Pen friends
The Tandem system will match you to a key-pal who is interested in learning Japanese. You will be put with somebody who is a native speaker of English (or any other language you choose). In the letters you write, you teach and help each other while becoming friends.
