Just
to prove that I was there, I took this self-timer photo. As you
can see by the long hair, I was in the start of my hippy-dippy
weatherman phase of life. The car I'm leaning against is the same
one that I drove from Vancouver to St. John's and back. It was
the most comfortable car I'd every driven in. So comfortable,
in fact, that several times I nearly drove off the road. Driving
across the country was great, but it was a long drive, and probably
would have been better if I had been with somebody.
Anyway, shortly after taking this photo
I arrived in the capital city of the province, Fredericton. There
are so many historical monuments and very cool museums, it's worth
planning to spend at least 2 full days there. In fact, I stayed
in the youth hostel there for 2 nights. I spent the first day
sightseeing. Then, that night I visited a local pub and had some
fish and chips. I spent the second day and night nursing a mild
case of food poisoning.
One
of the very best things about New Brunswick is the scenery. In
the north of the province, you'll find a lot of the area is covered
by forests, and the coastline is gorgeous. In the south, you should
definitely visit the provincial park on the Bay of Fundy. It has
the highest tides in the world. One of the results of this are
these "flowerpots." They don't look so big, but in real
life they're huge. In fact, if you look closely you can see some
people standing beside them. That should give you some idea of
what size they are. If you go, be sure to take a walk up along
the beach. The scenery is great.
In any case, New Brunswick is really
a great place to visit. There's just so much to do and the people
are so friendly -- you'll never get bored. Just stay clear of
the fish and chips.
